Newlaws app privacy policy
Effective 7 October 2026 · Applies to the Newlaws Android app, version 1.0.0 and later
Who this covers
This policy covers the Newlaws mobile app for Android (package com.dezynum.newlaws), a product of Dezynum distributed through Google Play. Newlaws is an independent project and is not affiliated with any government body.
It does not cover the newlaws.in website, which is a separate service with its own practices (it uses Google Analytics, for example). This page is part of that website, so a visit to it is covered by the website's practices, not by this policy.
Information we collect
None. The app has no sign-in, no profile and no forms. The one text box in the app is the search box, and what you type there is used to look up sections in a database that is already on your device. It is not saved to a history, and it is not sent anywhere.
What stays on your device
On first launch the app copies its reference data into private storage on your device:
- a database of the bundled act sections and the old-to-new mappings, which is the same for every user and contains nothing about you; and
- one small preference that records that this set-up has finished, so it is not repeated.
Other apps ordinarily cannot read this storage. Uninstalling the app removes it, and clearing the app's storage in Android settings removes it too and triggers set-up again on the next launch.
Two things sit outside the app's control. Android's own backup feature may copy an app's data, including this database and the set-up preference, to your Google account if backup is turned on for your device; that is governed by your device and Google settings. And text you type in the search box passes through your keyboard app like text in any other app, under that keyboard's own privacy practices.
Permissions
The app does not request any permission that Android would ask you to approve. It does not use your camera, microphone, location, contacts, photos or files, and it does not request the INTERNET permission, which Android requires for any app to connect to a network.
Third parties
The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software, and shares nothing with third parties. Google Play, through which you install the app, handles download and reliability statistics under Google's own privacy policy; we do not control that, and the app itself does not contribute to it.
The About screen shows the address newlaws.in/corrections as text. The app does not open it; if you want to report an error you can visit that page yourself in a browser.
Children
The app is a legal reference for a general audience and is not directed at children. Because it collects no information from anyone, there is no children's data to collect, store or delete.
Security
Because the app sends nothing off your device, we hold no server-side copy of your activity to protect. The reference database sits in app-private storage, protected by Android's normal app isolation.
Not legal advice
Newlaws is a text-level mapping and comparison tool. It does not interpret the law, give legal advice, or replace a lawyer. See the app page and the methodology for how the content is prepared.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app collects anything, requests a permission, or adds an SDK, this page will be updated in the same release and the effective date above will change. The release notes on Google Play will mention it.
